Evolutions of Dj's and Their Styles

Dj's and their turntables go way back to the 1960's. It was when turntablism became one of a kind, with Dj Kool, " father of hip-hop" came up with a technique called break.  Kool Herc began mixing two identical records together and extended them by making new beats or by scratching the two to make warped sounds. The hip-hop and electronic dance music blended making the disco era of 1970's.

In the 1980's disco began to be blended into "House music." House music was created by a group of Dj's experimenting with different sounds. It was 

mainly inspired by Dj Frankie Knuckles, and it is still one of the biggest genres of music today! Meanwhile, in Detroit was making a whole new sound. It was created all electronically with high energy sounds and it was called techno. They take the disco out and have the listener enjoy straight electronic noise. In the mid 1980's a music festival in the winter was created. For all different dj's of different styles and music. To this day it is held in Miami with a week of ongoing music called Ultra Music Festival. 

In the 1990's is when the rave scene came into place. It was mostly with the new music called Acid House, which is like House music. Acid house uses more of trance beats and repetition. Because raves got so popular the dj's became well known and famous. During the 90's more of digital music came into play with mp3 format. In 1998 a program called Final scratch allowed dj's to work with mp3 files on their turntables by using special coded vynils. 

Finally in the 2000's my favorite category of the Dj and music genre, where most dj's worked with mp3 files alone. Their turntables are digital but can be spun just like real records. Now dj's are experimenting more of the electronic era and with many different genres of music. Such as, Bounce music progressive house and even a new genre called deep house. More and more dj's are coming into the electronic dance business and are experimenting with different filters and effects that create cool, catchy beats. With all the new technology we have bee provided with dj's can continue to evolve to make different genres of music and cool new beats!
